How do you read a two-tiered putt?

-

By Top 25 Coach Ged Walters

Pick an aim point. A lot of amateurs don’t do this, or if they do, it won’t be high enough. Here, I’ve split the putt into two halves. I’ve read the top half first and judged the pace to where the slope is – so I have my aim point. I want the ball to be running out of steam at this point, and then the speed will increase as it rolls down the slope.
