James’ top tips for beginners

-

A lot of issues stem from pre-swing principles. Don’t run before you can walk – focus on the fundamentals like grip, ball position and alignment to get your swing off to the best possible start.

Process is important. Move any thought patterns on technique from over the ball to behind the ball. This allows you to be much more target focused over the ball, which should help declutter the mind.

Build confidence with a few clubs initially, but then familiarise yourself with other clubs in your set – you’ll need to be able to use them all eventually! Practise smarter with a plan. Rather than just smashing 50 balls with driver, hit different clubs to different targets and go through your pre-shot routine on each.
