ASK THE EXPERTS

- Tim Gorman, Morpeth

With the list changing every two years, what constitutes having played all of your Top 100 courses?

For some years, I was proud to have played all of the courses in the Top 100. However, in January 2017, my tally went down to 99 as Murcar Links came in as a new entry. Sadly, I have not since managed to make it back to the Aberdeen area, and so I remain on 99. Happily, I managed to play each of the latest three new entries last year.

Playing the Top 100 is indeed a moveable feast, but I think you are entitled to define it in your own way. For me, it will always be the current ranking. But there would be nothing wrong with taking any of the lists since 2008, when we moved from 120 to 100 courses.

It is always very exciting to investigate the latest entrant, whether a new design such as Dumbarnie Links or one where huge changes have occurred, like Prince’s.
