County Louth

-

Co. Louth Golf Club has graced Ireland’s eastern coastline since 1892. It is a links of infinite variety and brilliance and yet it has a calm humility to it. That’s hard to say when you’ve hosted two Irish Opens and the East of Ireland Amateur since 1941.

The Tom Simpson and Molly Gourlay design remains deeply entrenched and revered. The par 3s are especially strong, with three of the four greens cleverly and deviously perched on dune edges, but the two shortest par 4s, the 4th and

14th, deserve a special mention. The signature 14th (pictured), in the middle of a fabulous closing stretch, plays from a high tee with the green floating on a carpet of rising dunes. It’s a study in links strategy… something true of every hole here.
