An inland gem...
The Duke’s Course
An alternative to the links of St Andrews, The Duke’s has more of a heathland feel. Originally designed by Peter Thomson, the course was re-modelled by American architect Tim Liddy, with a number of changes including five separate tees at every hole to maximise flexibility.
It is a challenging track where strong hitting must come to the fore, especially on the opener – an uphill par 5 protected by significant bunkering, played to an elevated green.
The layout then forges into the trees for a series of very heath-like holes, before the 6th takes you to a green offering a fabulous view downhill and out across St Andrews towards Angus.
That’s the best thing about The Duke’s: gaining a totally different perspective of St Andrews, just minutes away from the town’s centre.
