Controversial Moment of the Year

Bryson Dechambeau’s 2021

-

There were plenty of contenders for this one – Rudy Giuliani’s inappropriate comments on Michelle Wie’s underwear, Brooks Koepka threatening to sue in the Ryder Cup if the shot he was being “forced” to play by officials resulted in injury, the Solheim Cup pick-up incident by Madelene Sagstrom and the recent driver length restrictions, to name but a few.

But we felt the award had to go to golf’s ‘Mr Marmite’, Bryson Dechambeau. The American remained controversial for good portions of the year as he carried on an unusual feud with Koepka. His power game divided opinion, as he took on ludicrous carries and insisted par was a different score for him. He entered long-driving competitions and continued to push the boundaries of what is possible and allowed within the game. Bryson’s approach to golf keeps the sport in the headlines.
