The jury’s still out

-

I believe it would be of interest to get your readers’ views on the new World Handicap System. My club is in Devon and the majority of members I come in contact with think the system is overcomplicated and very confusing, and that the previous way of calculating handicap was simple in comparison.

I suspect the WHS was brought in to stop false handicaps in lower-handicap competitions. However, for the average golfer, it’s hopeless. Nobody wants to use up to nine calculations before playing and not every course seems to have charts.

I am heading to Portugal in March and have tried, but failed, to find the handicap chart for the courses at Amendoeira. Many members at my previous club in Scotland also have the same feelings about WHS.
