Cleveland Launcher XL
Cleveland is offering two irons for the mid- to high-handicapper to choose from in 2022 (both £499, six-piece set). The Launcher XL iron delivers a 15 per cent increase in MOI over the previous generation, thanks, in part, to the new Mainframe clubface. This harnesses the power of artificial intelligence to find the optimal shape and weighting for each face, maximising ball speed.
To help balance things, Cleveland developed Action Mass CB to help square the clubface at impact via an 8g weight placed inside the end of the grip, which delivers control without added effort. Meanwhile, a V-shaped sole helps maintain speed through the turf for a better strike, while loft-specific grooves help every club perform better.
The second option is the Launcher XL Halo, a hybrid-like set that has also been made more forgiving and features a stepped Hibore crown and Gliderails on the sole of the long- irons for better turf interaction. This transitions to a V-shaped sole in the mid- to short-irons for cleaner contact when the angle of attack tends to be steeper.
