Zerofit Heatrub Ultimate Base Layer £55
GM Verdict
Zerofit is a Japanese sports performance brand dedicated mostly to innovative base layer products. Although its garments are not designed purely for golf, the man behind the company, Koji Higashi, is a single-figure golfer, who became so tired of finding himself cold on the course that he set about creating a technological line of base layers.
Sliding on the Zerofit Heatrub Ultimate for the first time it feels noticeably thicker than a traditional base layer, but it is extremely soft on the inside and very stretchy too. It did come up a little small, so you might want to consider going up a size depending on how snug you want it to feel.
We were really impressed with how it felt and performed. A good base layer is an essential piece of kit, especially if you play all-year round and in cold weather. However, some base layers actually leave you feeling too hot and sweaty, to the point where it becomes uncomfortable during your round.
The ‘Ultimate’ fibres inside the garment are activated through movement, gently brushing against the skin to generate a heat that’s not just instant, but also comfortable. It has that feeling of a natural material, but with the performance you’d expect from a manmade garment.
The movement in the fabric allows you to swing freely. There was no feeling that it was sticking to the skin, and despite playing in various winter conditions – from freezing cold to fairly mild – it maintained the perfect temperature. In fact, the brand says its optimal temperature range is -10° to 10° Celsius.
The Zerofit logo on the neck and brand name on the sleeve complete a premium look. The product came in a really classy cardboard box too.
There are lots of base layers on the market, but the Zerofit offers something different and is arguably slightly better. The unique Heatrub material is very comfortable, keeps you warm but without making you feel overly hot, which is not something all base layers do. The brand offers lots of other impressive products too, like the Heatrub Move base layer (£40), Ultimate leggings (£55) and the versatile Performance Move hoodie (£50).
