SCHAUFFELE ON…

Not winning a Major

I’m off all social media and all those things for a good reason. It doesn’t bother me. I just try to keep things in perspective. Being a recluse is one thing and not being on social media is part of that. I do enjoy spending time away from golf when I’m not doing it. Yeah, it’s definitely a goal of mine to not be the best player to not win a Major. Hopefully my name does not stay in that arena.

The Ryder Cup

It was an unbelievable way to end my season for 2021. To do it with my team-mates, it was just kind of a crazy year. What with the Olympics I didn’t get a chance to celebrate too much and that’s probably why you saw me celebrating too quickly after our victory. I have definitely sobered up now, but winning the Ryder Cup was a cherry on top for what was a great season.

The crop of US talent

I feel old. It’s my sixth year on the PGA Tour now, and I think we’re all products of a sort of Tiger Woods era and the wave that followed that, and all the young guys who are out there high up on the world rankings, those are players who are there after what he’s done, as well. The kids today just keep getting better and better – and they’re setting the bar pretty high.

Watching ‘soccer’

I still watch it a bit [he was touted as a future prospect when he was younger] but my brother watches it all a bit more candidly. But I am travelling a bunch and I get to hear a lot of the riff-raff from a lot of the caddies – they are always gambling on the games so the caddie tent keeps me informed of what is going on in the games, especially the Brits. They absolutely love it!
