Is this the future of laser rangefinders?

-

Increased competition in the laser rangefinder category has led to many groundbreaking innovations, with companies forced to think outside the box. The newest device from Shot Scope is evidence of this.

The new Shot Scope Pro LX+ rolls two distance-measuring devices into one and throws in shot-tracking capabilities as an added bonus. The handheld H4 GPS magnetically attaches to the front of the unit and comes with 16 screw-in sensors that allow golfers to track every shot and use post-round analytics to better understand their game.

Gps-enabled laser rangefinders are nothing new, but having shot-tracking capabilities as part of the package adds considerably to the appeal. I found it very useful last year to use my laser alongside my Gps-enabled electric trolley. I’d say the usage split during a round was close to 50/50. It gives you more information to assist with strategy, but with the Pro LX+ combining it all into one device, it makes for a much more convenient option.

Shot Scope’s existing Pro L1 laser is feature-packed but sluggish. So we’re hoping this device is quicker at displaying distances to the flag. The new LX looks a little larger, but the rubber grip areas should make it easy to use and it has an attractive price point (£329.99) for such a cutting-edge product.

We are yet to test the device to conclude how well the laser and GPS yardages work side by side, or if the shot tracking will function seamlessly without a watch, but look out for our full review in an upcoming issue.
