GF Round: £25-£75; twilight: £20-£45 A long, narrow peninsula juts out into the Moray Firth, slicing through the waters, a lighthouse at the very tip. Golf was first played on this low landscape in 1702, but today’s layout is attributed to James Braid. A straight opening run of four holes above the beach is the perfect start, concluding with the buckling, bunkerless par-5 4th with its green high on Chanonry Point beneath the lighthouse. Three more holes return on the other side of the peninsula, with the par-3 5th crossing from one shore to the other. It’s not long, nor does it need to be with wind ever-present and constant splashes of gorse.

GM verdict Fortrose & Rosemarkie delivers short and sweet links golf on a long, low peninsula.
