Auchterarder

GF Round: £50-£55; day: £60-£70 This small Perthshire town is particularly blessed when it comes to golf, with its own lovely little course lying right next door to Gleneagles. The hole that flanks its more celebrated neighbour is the excellent par-5 6th, but several stand out before then, among them the par-4 3rd. The closing trio is particularly testing: a 235-yard par 3, a demanding 441-yarder and a closing par 3 that may require the removal of a headcover into the wind.

GM verdict Lovely little course near Gleneagles with splendid views of the Ochil Hills.
