North West

-

GF Round: €60-€70; twilight: €30-€35 North West is one of the oldest courses in Ireland, dating back to 1891. It lies on the Inishowen Peninsula, and you get a good view of the links as you drive north into Buncrana. Not idly has it been dubbed ‘the St Andrews of Ireland’, such is the perfect, low linksland of bewitching folds and idiosyncratic shapes. Your bump-and-run skills will be well tested on beautiful greens, many just flowing out of the land, and the low approach often trumps the towering wedge. This is about patience because the winds sweeping in off Lough Swilly dictate which parts of your game are tested most.

GM verdict An old, low links with a mischievous heart that will put your driving skills to the test.
