n 18-hole round of golf is physically demanding – six miles of walking with a set of clubs, 40 or 50 full swings plus a unique set of mental and physical puzzles. It’s great fun, but can occasionally leave you exhausted. Well, imagine doing it four times in a day! That’s what the tough people participating in this year’s Macmillan Cancer Support Longest Day Golf Challenge will face. And you could be one of them.

This summer will see the 22nd running of the Longest Day Golf Challenge, raising money for people living with cancer. Teams of four will play four rounds (72 holes) on a single day on (or around) June 21.

Macmillan Cancer Support is doing whatever it takes to navigate the backlog of cancer cases since the start of the pandemic. It’s a chance to dust off those clubs and participate in a great event for a worthwhile cause.

Anyone can register at longestdaygolf.macmillan.org. uk (or by scanning the QR code) and it’s free to do so – get a team of four together, pick a date, find a course or club that’s able to accommodate you, get fundraising and go out there and be a real golfing hero.

The first thing is to get a team of four together who are ready to take on the challenge. It doesn’t matter if you’re scratch players or high-handicappers – anyone can roll their sleeves up and do their bit to help provide people living with cancer with physical, emotional and financial support. You can choose to play on the longest day of the summer, June 21, or alternatively pick any date that suits your team.

Once you have a plan in place, you can start your fundraising. The more you raise, the more Macmillan Cancer Support can accomplish. And, the four teams who raise the most money by the closing date of September 16 could win a golfing holiday to the Boavista Golf & Spa Resort in Portugal to take part in the Longest Day Golf Challenge Finals, which run from November 3-6, 2022 [full competition terms available at longestdaygolf. macmillan.org.uk].

Macmillan Cancer Support has a raft of advice on its website to support you in your fundraising and a great deal of information on how your efforts can make a huge difference to people living with cancer.

On the day, you can play against each other within your four or just for fun; you simply have to complete 72 holes of golf. Get the club you’re playing at involved and encourage supporters to follow you on the course or welcome you off the 72nd green. It’s an incredible day of golf and a chance to pull together to help those living with cancer.
