Arnold Palmer
Arnold Palmer was inspirational in bringing a new generation to the game of golf in the late 1950s and early 1960s and his swashbuckling style captivated fans across the world. His swing was a reflection of his personality – unique, daring and powerful.
His backswing was quick and he lifted his left heel way off the ground to promote a massive turn away from the ball. That meant he was coiled to produce a seriously powerful attack. He whipped back towards the ball at such speed that he often threw himself off-balance, finishing with the club whirling above his head.
Palmer’s action was full of flair and showmanship and that’s what made him so appealing to his ‘army’ of supporters. The swing helped him win seven Majors and 95 tournaments over a 50-year career.
