Lee Trevino

-

Lee Trevino was a master of improvisation and would use a multitude of techniques to get the ball adjacent to, or in, the hole. Having watched Ben Hogan hitting balls on the practice ground at Shady Oaks in Fort Worth, Trevino decided to perfect the fade. He did so with great success, despite a strong grip. He became an extremely accurate player, renowned for firing at flags.

Trevino took the club away on the outside and got to a position where his left wrist was bowed at the top. On the way down, there was a good deal of compression and he lowered his head significantly into the ball. His hips moved backwards to afford him space at impact. But he released the clubhead fantastically well and was renowned for his consistent ball-striking.
