Correction: In our May issue, Q1 should have read “match play” not “stroke play”. The answer was correct for match play but not stroke play. We apologise for the error. 1. A – Under Rule 6.2b, a player may stand outside the teeing area to make a stroke at a ball in the teeing area. 2. A – Under Rule 18.2a, a ball is in bounds when any part of it lies on or touches the ground inside the boundary edge.

3. B – Under Rule 9.7b, if the player, or his opponent in match play, lifts the player’s ball-marker or causes it to move (when the ball is lifted and not yet replaced), they get one penalty stroke. 4. C – Holes made by maintenance staff are ground under repair (GUR) even if not marked, but not all damage caused by maintenance staff is GUR by default. As it was not marked GUR by the Committee, Jezz was not entitled to free relief so has played from a wrong place. It was not a serious breach so he gets the general penalty under Rule 14.7.
