What most influences how your golfing diary shapes up every year? Alan Higgins, Dewsbury
All sorts of factors. First, we get emails from readers or golf clubs inviting us to visit, and I’m always keen to do so when people adopt such a proactive approach. You might be surprised how few do!
Then, if I know I’m going to be in a certain part of the country some distance from home, I’ll look to take advantage by extending the trip to play a few more courses nearby. Other courses then come on to my radar for all sorts of reasons – perhaps a Tweet with a great photo or news of course improvements.
There are also visits to Top 100 and Next 100 courses in my role as a panellist – Fulford in Yorkshire is next up in that capacity. Finally, there’s the never-ending quest to visit golfing pastures new as I home in on my 1,000th course. I won’t quite make it this year (without my wife filing for divorce!), but should get there in 2023, all things being equal.
