Ping Glide 4.0 wedge £160

-

A brand loved by many, Ping has waited more than two years to launch its successor to the popular Glide 3.0 wedge. So, what improvements has it made?

First, it looks exceptional, particularly in the more traditional teardrop shape that is available in three of the four grind options. In addition to this, it also features the classic Ping Hydropearl chrome 2.0 finish, which adds to the style on offer while also reducing glare and working to prevent fliers from the rough. Confidence over the ball is an essential component of short-game performance, but this wedge isn’t just a looker.

Unrivalled spin

Perhaps most impressive is the spin on offer from the Glide 4.0. We’ve all enjoyed that new wedge experience when you feel like a tour pro with the amount of action you’re generating on the greens, and the Glide 4.0 provides this in spades.

The precision-milled face and grooves play their part, but another feature worth mentioning is the new emery face blast. It adds more texture to the hitting surface, which creates higher friction and therefore greater interaction between club and ball. The result is shots that come off the face nice and low and stand to attention on demand.

Sand saviour

The Glide 4.0 wedge is available in four grind options – the thin sole, standard sole, wide sole, and, unique to Ping’s wedge line-up, the E or Eye2 sole. This grind also incorporates the iconic and distinctive high-toe design made popular in the 1980s.

Ping claims it is the ultimate bunker wedge and it’s hard to argue. The sole allows the club to glide through the sand, popping the ball out with ease, while the high toe delivers confidence and forgiveness. If you’re looking to save shots around the green, the Glide 4.0 is well worth trying.
