Wilson Staff Model TM22 putter £370

-

GM verdict

The Wilson Staff Model TM22 is one of the two mallet putter shapes in this premium range of heads. Milled from a block of 304 stainless steel, the TM22 exudes class and uses different milling patterns to highlight different parts of the head.

At address, the milled lines on top of the two fangs darken the appearance of these parts of the head, which then contrast with the leading edge to create an alignment aid. There is also a short black line behind the centre of the face and two longer lines either side of the central space. They are quite subtle and could stand out more, so it is really the shape of the fangs and central space that provide the perpendicular alignment aid.

The short-slant hosel creates a slight toe hang, which works best with a slight-arc stroke. This is a popular trend now among premium putters aimed at better players – combining a forgiving head with this style of hosel – and the TM22 carries it off well.

The milling pattern on the 3°loft face continues the premium feel and gives excellent feedback on the greens. You can really notice when you strike one perfectly, and even when slightly off centre the feel is very good.

Topping it all off is a leather-style headcover and an excellent Lamkin Deep Etch grip that has some contouring around the upper part to suit whichever style you employ. It’s made from a Genesis material that feels robust enough to last a long time.

In summary, there is more to the TM22 putter than its sibling Wilson Staff Model BL22 blade, which justifies the rather punchy price of £370 a bit more. The milling patterns work well to create visual differences at address that are more subtle than most.

Voice Caddie T9 GPS watch

This golf GPS watch is slick, modern and lightweight and the colour LCD touchscreen is bright, readable and very responsive. Features include slope functionality and full-colour hole maps, but what sets it apart is the detailed visuals it provides of the green. Using a heatmap system, the watch shows you the exact undulations of the green and allows you to move the pin position, too. It’s one of the most comprehensive options on the market.

Ogio All Elements hybrid stand bag

This visually bold stand bag features eight moulded dividers, comprising four single club holders down the side and four larger sections to house irons and wedges. There are nine pockets, including a premium valuables pocket, but the most welcome feature is a double strap fit disc system that levels and evenly distributes the weight, so the bag is perfectly balanced as you carry.

Inesis High MOI putter

This putter is the top-of-the-range option from Decathlon’s family of own-brand putters. The name means this putter is less likely to twist if hit off centre, which makes it more forgiving. The feel from the face is very good, thanks to a semi-rigid TPU pad that sits behind a metallic face. Grooves in an arc really help to improve the roll of the ball. With a good-quality pistol grip and smart headcover, it represents excellent value for money overall.

Golfstream Blue electric trolley

With no screen and just a dial to control speed, the Blue is for golfers who want simplicity. It takes seconds to erect and you can easily find a good walking pace using the ergonomic dial. While it’s not the most compact when folded down, there is zero fuss when packing it away. The battery connector feels slightly rudimentary, but overall it has proven to be a stylish and reliable trolley.

Golfbuddy Laser Atom rangefinder

This is a pocket-sized rangefinder that comes with slope, scan and pin modes. The minimalist design doesn’t affect the overall practicality, thanks to easy access to the buttons on top. It picks up the pin with ease and scan mode is a great feature to utilise off the tee. The icing on the cake is the premium carry case made from textured leather. Good things do come in small packages.

Cleveland CG package set

This ten-strong set features a driver, 3-wood, 4-hybrid, 6-SW irons and a putter. The woods and putter all have headcovers and there is a smart stand bag included. The irons were the standout performers, looking generous behind the ball without being too bulky. The woods have a smart contrast between the silver face and black crown that highlights the loft on offer. The 3-wood in particular delivers a powerful ball flight with good carry distance.
