The Manor House

-

A scintillating combination of golf, dining and luxury accommodation in the Cotswolds, The Manor House is quickly becoming a must-visit golf staycation venue. Located in Wiltshire’s Castle Combe – named the prettiest village in the UK by FBM Holidays in 2021 – The Manor House estate dates back to the 14th century and is home to an acclaimed par-72 parkland course.

Designed by Peter Alliss and Clive Clark, the layout’s beautifully manicured fairways are lined by mature oak and beech trees, with the River Bybrook meandering through the middle to bring much drama and beauty. Indeed, it is the river that makes the 17th such a breathtaking hole. Dropping down 120 feet, there are two separate greens split by water, with a number of well-placed bunkers adding to the test of your short-iron ball-striking.

As you make your way around the course, you will get to experience dramatic drives and tee-shots into valleys, such as on the delightful par-3 2nd, nearly 80 troublesome bunkers and what has been described as one of the prettiest finishing holes in the country –

a narrow par 4 playing back towards the clubhouse. But the estate is much more than just a golf course.

An idyllic countryside retreat like no other, The Manor House combines exquisite accommodation and dining options in one of the Cotswolds’ most iconic locations.

The Castle Inn is a cosy 12th-century pub where local charm meets exceptional experience. Situated in the heart of Castle Combe village and offering 12 characterful bedrooms and delicious homemade food, it has earned two AA Rosettes and a spot in the UK’S Top 50 Gastropubs.

For the ultimate golf break, The Manor House is also home to the Michelin-starred Bybrook Restaurant, which offers a relaxed, elegant atmosphere with seasonal and local ingredients crafted into a superb tasting menu.

There are luxury rooms and suites to retire to in either the 14th-century Manor House or its mews cottages along the road back into the village – all full of character and individually designed. Alternatively, to keep things low-key, there’s a self-catering mews cottage or The Waterfall Lodge, which overlooks the golf course.

Those in need of further relaxation should visit The Potting Shed in the Italian Gardens, which offers blissful massages to help you unwind. A visit to Castle Combe and The Manor House should be a real must on everyone’s UK golf-break bucket list.
