Odyssey White Hot Versa Twelve S putter £249 GM verdict

-

Odyssey’s patented Versa alignment technology has made a long-awaited return in the newest White Hot Versa range. You will be instantly drawn to the bold, black-and-white-contrast head, which really helps alignment and aim at address. The high-vis monotones definitely assist your focus and concentration, while the sleek styling and high-quality finish give a premium look to this head.

The Twelve S model straddles the line nicely between an out-and-out mallet and a blade putter, but it’s certainly more towards a mallet size. The white and black contrast, coupled with the small aim line on top of the crown, is a fantastic alignment aid. It will help you as you line up the putt and when you deliver the club at impact.

The head has an overall weighty feel to it, so it’s very stable through impact while also encouraging you to employ a pendulum-style putting action. This feeling in the head meant we had good control of pace, especially from long range. The White Hot insert is another highlight and delivers a pleasing sound – it’s much nicer than many putters, whose acoustics are a lot more muffled.

The entire Versa range is fitted with Odyssey’s latest

Stroke Lab shaft, made partly from carbon fibre to save weight and redistribute it in the head and grip. The key difference between the latest Stroke Lab shaft and the predecessor is that it has a shortened steel section, reducing the weight by seven grams. This has made it stiffer and more stable for even more consistency in your stroke.

The effect of this weight distribution is dramatic, improving the consistency of backswing timing, face angle at impact, ball speed and ball direction. Plus, it encourages a greater awareness of the putter head, which helps you make a more repeatable stroke.
