Sun Mountain Sports was founded in 1981 by Rick Reimers, who became one of the golf industry’s leaders in invention and innovation. With its assembly facility in Missoula, Montana, Sun Mountain is widely regarded as one of the go-to brands for golf bags and accessories. The Sun Mountain Kube is one of several travel covers it makes and, in our opinion, it’s fantastic.
One of the key features of this travel cover is its ability to fold up into – you guessed it – a cube! When folded, the Kube has dimensions of just 23 x 33 x 38cm, barely making a dent in wherever you choose to store your travel bags. We’ve found it especially useful in hotel rooms, where standard travel covers can often take up much floor space while you’re trying to enjoy your trip.
A handy added benefit of this unique system is the extra padding it provides when in use. The hard-case shell expands at the top and bottom ends of the bag to provide robust protection, especially at the top end where it’s needed the most. Two internal and two external compression straps hold things down tightly
nd to stop your golf bag moving around while on its travels.
Ultra lightweight
Our favourite thing about the Kube, aside from the way it folds away, is how light it is. Weighing in at just 3.08kg (6.8lbs) it leaves you with so much weight to play with in your golf bag. As such, you’ll be able to take more of everything else away with you in the Kube, such as extra golf balls.
Most airlines allow a golf bag to be no more than 20kg – it can be up to 23kg on certain airlines – so you certainly want to make the most of that allowance.
Innovative design
Overall we have really enjoyed our experiences travelling with the Kube. Its unique storage functionality is exceptionally useful but, most importantly of all, it does the basics supremely well by keeping your golf clubs well protected in transit.
And those who like to travel as close to the weight limit as possible will very much appreciate the additional gear you can pack into it thanks to its lightweight design.
