TAYLORMADE M4

Golf World (UK) - - CONTENTS -

TaylorMade’s new M4 fairway wood comes with added forgiveness, easier launch off the deck and raw power. Form a queue here.

The M4 has big boots to fill as it follows in the footsteps of the long and forgiving 2017 M2 model. It now has a thinner and stronger face and a split-weight mass pad that moves weight to the perimeter of the clubhead to increase the size of the sweet spot. A new Tour version has a smaller head (156cc versus 175cc) and slightly deeper face for better players who prefer a more compact look, lower launch and increased workability. The M4 is available in 15°, 16.5°, 18°, 21° and 24° lofts, and the Tour head comes in 15° and 18°. £229. www.taylormadegolf.eu

WILL IT WORK FOR ME?

The added forgiveness that comes from not having the moveable weight of the M3 makes the M4 the go-to fairway for most – from pros to higher handicappers. It’s easy to launch off the deck but its raw power means it’s also great off the tee if you struggle with the driver.

WHAT DOES IT REPLACE?

The 2017 M2 fairway was popular for its mix of distance, easy launch and forgiveness. It had an Inverted Cone face, while the Speed Pocket was longer and more flexible than the 2016 version and Geocoustic Technology improved the sound.

WHAT’S THE TECH STORY?

TaylorMade has continued to develop its use of a multi-material head construction, Speed Pocket, Geocoustic Technology and Inverted Cone Technology in the face to make the M4 even more forgiving without sacrificing any distance thanks to a new Ni-Co C300 face material.
