Best US Open finish: T3, 2005 Finish in 2004: T20
Is there a player in the game harder to predict than Sergio? The now 38-year-old Spaniard toiled for 18 years and 70 majors as a pro before finally landing the Green Jacket. Since then, he’s finished no higher than T21 and missed the Masters cut by 10. Will winning the Masters galvanise him to kick on or have marriage and fatherhood changed his priorities? It’s impossible to know, but we like him at Shinnecock. His 2018 stats are pretty solid — he’s eighth in the all-round SG: Total category. His one badly deficient stat is putting (141st) but, as he proved at Augusta last year and at plenty of other places, he has weeks when he holes plenty.
