I have just spent in excess of 25 hours watching the Ryder Cup and wow, what an atmosphere and what a great result for the Europeans, but it could and maybe should have been totally different. Jim Furyk got one of his picks totally wrong and could not have paid any attention to the Le Golf National course.

Look at who the best player was, Francesco Molinari (above right). This came as no surprise given the course set-up. Now who from the USA who was not already in the team could match up to Molinari’s style of play? Matt Kuchar, Zach Johnson, Xander Schauffele, Kevin Kisner – all would have been a much better bet than Phil Mickelson, who clearly wasn’t suited to Golf National.

The result was fantastic from a European point of view, but if Jim Furyk had just left Lefty at home, it could all have been so very different.
