LE STAR OF LE SHOW

Golf World (UK) - - TALKING POINTS DIALOGUE -

Following a hugely enjoyable Ryder Cup, we should praise the real star of the show... the course. It was interesting to hear Phil Mickelson’s take on it, but more interesting to consider what this said about the golf played on the PGA tour. Despite having a fantastically run product, played on immaculate courses, Phil seemed to confirm the suspicion that US golf is now little more than a Boom, Pitch and Putt challenge. It seems that accuracy from the tee, skill with irons, touch and putting seems to be a commodity that is undervalued in the USA.

In days when much time is spent fretting about how far the ball goes, perhaps the answer is to present real tests of golf? Provide sensibly paced greens, fair but tough rough and make the challenge from the tee about accuracy and you have an immensely enjoyable spectacle.
