DON’T STAND IN LINE

We are taught from a young age not to push to the front of the queue, and while it’s true that sometimes you have to wait in line, there are also times when you need to keep on knocking on a door if you ever want it to open. Senior management will respond to the people who are the most proactive. If men are knocking on the door more often, they will be the ones who get noticed. Whether it’s for a pay rise, a promotion, or a conversation about the future of your career, you need to start knocking on doors, too. Ambition is considered quite masculine, and one of those traits that people often don’t like in women. But women are ambitious, and while you don’t need to wear it on your sleeve, you do need to acknowledge it, and have a strategy.
