‘Without hope, what else is there?’

-

On 15 September 2017, I was in a taxi on the way to meet our four inspirational women when a bomb went off on the Tube at Parsons Green in west London, writes Ella Dove. In total, 22 people were hospitalised. Thankfully, there were no fatalities.

That day, we were celebrating resilience in the face of atrocity. As we sat on the sofa chatting, the four women were united in their attitude – sharing the values of peace, love and understanding.

‘It’s amazing to see the amount of kindness out there – it makes a huge difference,’ Chrissie told us.

‘We must retain normality and hold on to hope. Without hope, what else is there?’ said Figen.

Last year, I experienced my own darkness, after a freak running accident led to the amputation of my right leg. It took a long time to come to terms with my injury and realise the true meaning of resilience. These women have taught me the value of sharing emotions, honesty and of friendship. Kindness in adversity is crucial, and it’s a lesson I’ll definitely take with me.

The day ended with laughter and the clinking of Prosecco glasses as they all vowed to keep in touch. Our women arrived as strangers – but they left united.
