THE MODERN UP-DO

-

Hairstylist Jonothon Malone created this gorgeous style in five minutes! ‘Although it looks tricky, it’s actually easy to do. It works better on medium-length hair that’s been washed a day or two beforehand.’ To begin, keep hair in your natural parting and separate the back of your hair into two ponytails (behind the tops of your ears). Fold them over each other and secure in place with bobby pins. Fold the ponytail sections over again, twisting upwards, holding in place with another pin (you may need more depending on the thickness of your hair). Tuck the remaining hair into the twisted base of the knot and secure with a jewelled accessory. We used Butler & Wilson Couture Crystal Moon & Star Brooch, £68 (qvcuk. com). On bobs and shoulderlength styles, Jonothon suggests sweeping one side of the hair up towards the crown and pinning in place with a jewelled pin. ‘Lightly backcombing the roots of the side you’re pinning up adds more grip and helps styles to last longer.’ Try adding a line of three sparkly clips for a stylish update. On short, cropped styles, sweeping hair back away from the face is an elegant look. ‘Prep wet hair with a volumising mousse (GH likes Aussie Uplift Your Hair Styling Mousse, £4.99) and use your blow-dryer with a round brush to smooth hair upwards,’ says Jonothon.
