'IT'S ALL ABOUT OVERINDULGING'
Elaine Paige’s traditional sunshine festivities are off the cards, as she’s in panto
Indulge is the word for me at Christmas! My traditions are presents, drinking and eating a lot. That’s what I love about it.
Usually, I go somewhere hot but this year I will be in London as I am going to be in panto. I haven’t done anything on stage now for six years. I miss theatre and the camaraderie. I’m playing Queen Rat in Dick Whittington at the London Palladium. She’s vermin and I hope I get booed at!
As I will only get Christmas Day off, I will probably spend it horizontal, recovering from the show. I will be with my family and friends.
I love a traditional Christmas lunch as it reminds me of my childhood. My mother would always make a wonderful turkey lunch and would prepare the pudding and cake months in advance. We would all be involved in making it, stirring it round in a huge pot.
I love a Christmas tree, but normally I don’t bother with it if I’m going away. This year, though, I will have one in my dressing room. Hopefully all my pals will come and see the show. It’s very festive.
After the panto, I plan to take myself to France to collapse and then go on a cruise before heading back into the studios to record my new album, Stages Two. Next year will be 40 years since Evita first opened. I am thinking of taking it a little bit easier. I keep saying I’m going to slow down and not do as much, but this year I’ve done more than ever!
