Five tips
✶ KEEP WARM FOR A HEALTHY HEART. Wrap up well, as cold weather constricts arteries and raises blood pressure, which can increase the risk of heart attack and stroke.
✶ STRIKE A YOGA POSE. If you suffer from painful periods, positions like Child’s Pose can help ease cramps, says science researcher Anna Druet, of women’s health app Clue.
✶ CHOOSE YOUR CLOTHES CAREFULLY. Consultant dermatologist Dr Bav Shergill says even natural materials, such as lambswool, may irritate eczema or psoriasis.
✶ PROTECT FACIAL BONES. They lose density at the same time as our other bones (from the age of 27 for some women). The answer, says Dr Rebecca Booth: vitamin D supplements and dietary calcium.
✶ WEAR EAR PLUGS, if you swim in winter and produce a lot of ear wax. Audiologist Vincent Howard says water causes the wax to expand, affecting hearing and balance.
