HOW TO PICK THE PERFECT PAIR OF JEANS

Denim guru Donna Ida shares her top tips

IF YOU’RE PEAR-SHAPED

A highwaist style in a dark wash will draw the eye towards your small waist, while a boot-cut or wide-leg style will skim over your hips and balance your proportions.

IF YOU’RE CURVY

Try straight-leg jeans to elongate your pins. Stick to a heavy-weighted denim with a minimal amount of stretch. Darker washes will help to streamline your shape and disguise any problem areas.

IF YOU’RE APPLE-SHAPED

Go for straight-leg jeans with plenty of stretch and a mid- or low-rise waist. Be sure to choose the right wash – darker styles tend to be more flattering, as are wider waistbands.

IF YOU HAVE A BOYISH FRAME

Try low-rise, skinny jeans to provide more shape and definition. Detailing, such as zips, hardware and back pockets, are particularly good for adding shape to your bottom. Slouchy styles also work well, adding curves to the thighs and hips.

IF YOU HAVE LONG LEGS

Keep the waist at the right height; too high and the jeans will elongate your legs even further and shorten your torso. Stick to mid- and low-rise styles in a longer length. Look for washes with shading to the thigh, which will add shape and dimension.

IF YOU’RE PETITE

Go for skinny or straight-leg jeans, particularly if the style has fading or detailing, to add shape. High-rise styles will elongate your legs and cinch in your waist to show off your proportions, while cropped styles really suit your smaller frame.
