BOOKSHELF The latest reads to devour
BARBARA KINGSOLVER has been one of my favourite writers since I read her breakthrough book, The Poisonwood Bible. Her new novel, UNSHELTERED, is a near-perfect mix of enthralling storytelling, clever characters and blistering social commentary. The story takes place in a big, crumbling house, where two families live – one in the present day, one in the 1870s – both struggling to keep their heads above water. This timely book subtly pokes holes in the myth of the self-made man and Donald Trump’s America, all done with the lightest of touches.
