FEEL AT HOME

Whether it’s repurposing a room or introducing new accessories, here’s how to revamp your living space, whatever your budget

-

There’s nothing quite like a welcoming space to come home to at the end of the day. And to keep your interiors looking fresh, a little investment can go a long way. We asked homes expert Louise Pearce, editor of Good Housekeeping’s sister title House Beautiful, how to spend your money wisely.

STYLISH TOUCHES

For an update rather than a major overhaul, Louise suggests adding pops of colour with cushions, throws or rugs. ‘For summer, plaster pinks, dark bottle greens and tonal blues are popular,’ she says. ‘Using bold colour is a simple way to add a modern twist to any room.

‘Changing up your lighting, updating the handles on kitchen cupboards and retiling a bathroom are also costeffective ways to revamp your look.’

A credit card, ideally one that offers 0% interest on new purchases, can help with budgeting for any home improvements. Set up a direct debit so you don’t miss a bill. M&S Bank has a range of introductory offers to suit different needs (credit subject to status; 19.9% APR representative variable).*

CHANGING SPACES

With a little more investment, you can repurpose your existing rooms. ‘Spaces currently popular with homeowners include en-suite bathrooms, utility rooms – especially for people with family and pets – and walk-in wardrobes,’ says Louise.

MAKING ROOM

‘If you’re looking for extra space, loft and garage conversions are a good option,’ advises Louise.

‘Consider anything that brings in more light, such as Velux roof windows or bifold doors.’ Conversions are a big commitment, so weigh up the time and cost involved against the space gained.

The right personal loan could allow you to borrow the amount you need all in one go. With an M&S Bank personal loan, you can arrange fixed monthly payments over a period that suits you (credit subject to status).*
