WORTH SHARING
THIS MONTH, WE ASKED YOU TO SHARE A MISTAKE YOU LEARNED FROM
Your letters
Q. What mistake has taught you invaluable life lesson?
A. Going on a walk on a hot day with a friend and believing how long he said it was – it was 50% longer! Now, I always double-check his (and other people’s) estimates.
For my 8th birthday, I wanted a Barbie doll so desperately that I hunted through my parents’ wardrobe to see if they had bought me one. They had! However, on my birthday, I was disappointed that I’d ruined the surprise; a mistake I’ve never repeated. DEBBIE POOLE
Worrying too much about the future and being pessimistic about things that might not happen. Worrying is wasted energy. If you can’t change it, try not to worry about it. MEL ALDER
Your time as a parent is precious. Now my children are in their 20s, I wish I’d been stricter with getting the right work/life balance. Work will always be there, but children grow up and leave home in the blink of an eye. M RYDER
Watching my husband become increasingly ill and knowing there was a possibility I could lose this kind, loving man. He pulled through, but I’ll never make the mistake of taking anything for granted again. KAREN JONES
Over the years, I’ve always put other people first. While I can’t say I have completely learned this lesson, I am realising that you can’t pour from an empty vessel and self-care isn’t selfish! VANDA CLAYTON
