CREATING CHANGE

I’ve never written to a publication or posted anything on social media before, but having read The Rise Of Speaking Up And Speaking Out in the January issue, I wanted to praise your magazine for a brilliant article. It absolutely reflected my mood and, most importantly, reinforced my belief that the small things do count and we can all play our part in creating change. SANDRA HAILSTONE

ROWLING INTERVIEW

Well done for your feature on JK Rowling in the January magazine and for including a question on the trans issue that she has been vilified for. When lots of people are distancing themselves from her, I was pleased to see you’re not. JULIE

MONTHS OF INSPIRATION

I live in Malaysia, and before that Singapore, and have subscribed to Good Housekeeping for a number of years. On my coffee table sit 12 issues for 2020, and I send you all heartfelt thanks for ‘keeping the show on the road’ in the most difficult of years. KIM JANE SAUNDERS

WOMAN OF THE YEAR

Listening to the upbeat voice of Lorraine Kelly (right) every morning, giving her, and Dr Hilary’s, informed advice has helped keep the past year in perspective for me. With an infectious (sorry) giggle, you can forget your worries for a time. She is my choice for one of the UK’S Women of the Year 2020. EVE WILKINSON

STATIONERY DEVOTEE

It was wonderful to discover Susan Calman is as big a stationery ‘junkie’ as I am (October). I use a pencil case and still have my first one, wooden with my name printed on it by my father. I also have fountain pens, including a Conway Stewart that was my mother’s. If asked what I’d take to a desert island, posh stationery would be my answer. JENNIFER WEDGE

NEVER TOO YOUNG

As a loyal subscriber to Good Housekeeping, I may have recruited another one for you, my one-year-old granddaughter, Luna. She loves going through the latest magazine when she comes to visit. CERI MOLYNEUX

BAKES AND MAKES

I loved your Birds Of A Feather Christmas cake idea in the December issue, so I had a go at making some myself for me and my family. Hope you like them. LESLEY SPARROW

When I was making my cakes for Christmas just gone, I realised I have been using your recipe for 20 years! It is the ‘booziest Christmas cake’ recipe, which was in the November 2000 issue. Yes, I do tweak it, varying the alcohol year on year. These cakes boasted Cointreau and rum and had a feed of brandy. But what doesn’t change is how much they’re appreciated by family and friends. LOUISE HOLMES

WORTH READING

I loved She Came To Stay by Eleni Kyriacou, a thriller set among the grit and glamour of 1950s Soho, with loads of twists and turns. FRANCES QUINN

If I Can’t Have You by Charlotte Levin is a dark, twisting tale about a troubled character who is convinced she’s met the love of her life. PENNY JENKINS

The Windsor Diaries by Alathea Fitzalan Howard is a must if you love The Crown, as Alathea records the highs and lows of her life as a friend to the young Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret. JANET CLEAVES
