-

Do you have red and dry or easily irritated skin? Then you’ll know you have to treat it with care and caution. Our panel tested 24 moisturisers specifically developed for sensitive skin to offer both instant and long-term relief. Here are our top three…

JOINT WINNER Dermalogica Ultracalming Calm Water Gel Moisturiser,

£45

The quick-absorbing, non-greasy formula gave testers instant relief, with 93% of our panel saying their skin felt immediately hydrated. Most saw long-lasting improvements, too, and enjoyed the gel-to-liquid texture, which transformed on application. The majority of our testers said skin felt smoother and soothed from irritation after four weeks’ use.

JOINT WINNER Eucerin Hypersensitive Skin Ultrasensitive Soothing Care,

£16.50

Designed for the most delicate skin, this formula performed best in our lab tests for long-lasting hydration. Among those testers who described their skin as severely sensitive, more than half reported an improvement after using this product. Used morning and night, the fragrance-free, lightweight cream left testers’ skin feeling soft.

JOINT WINNER

Curél Intensive Moisture Facial Cream,

£19.50 83/100

This lightweight cream was praised especially for reducing long-term redness. It scored well for instant hydration, too, and was best at reducing the appearance of dry patches. In fact, our testers couldn’t fault the formulation, with some even noticing an improvement in the appearance of pores and wrinkles. Although it didn’t perform quite as well in the lab, overall, our panel was impressed.

✶ HOW WE TESTED More than 340 testers trialled 24 moisturisers designed for sensitive skin for four weeks, representing a range of skin types from mildly to extremely sensitive. The products were rated on scent, texture, packaging and performance. We assessed how well each one improved key areas of concern, including redness, irritation, itchiness, dryness and tightness. In the lab, we measured hydration improvement using our Skin Test Centre’s Corneometer.
