Q Should I count lost hairs?

No! Trichologists and dermatologists agree that attempting to count fallen hairs ramps up your stress. Keep control of stress with meditation, mindfulness and exercise. Q Should I shampoo less often?

Another no! ‘Many suffering from hair loss reduce the frequency of washing and this means that more hair loss gets noticed when it is washed!’ says Sara G Allison. Keep stress levels down by washing regularly.

Q Can I still colour my hair?

There’s no evidence to suggest that colouring causes hair to fall out. However, if you over-process – especially when going lighter – it can cause hair breakage, which gets confused with shedding. Doing the colouring yourself? Only colour root regrowth and don’t keep overlapping colour, which can encourage hair breakage.

Q What about growth oils?

These are crowding pharmacy shelves right now and small studies show that some oils, including bergamot, seem to help reduce inflammation, which may support hair growth. So, they could be worth a try and, at the very least, they will make hair feel smoother and thicker. Q Should I take a hair growth pill? Clinical studies show that supplements containing patented marine protein extracts are thought to support the normalisation of the hair growth cycle. One study found that shedding was significantly reduced in the first three to six months of taking the supplement daily and the hair diameter increased after six months. Try Viviscal and Nourkrin.
