Create your RETREAT
Your own at-home calming retreat doesn’t have to be a room to yourself. ‘There is only one requirement,’ says feng shui expert Amanda Gibby Peters. ‘It has to be a space you love and that’s a feeling you deliberately create.’
FIRST Clear the decks. ‘Clutter interferes with the energy of joy and intensifies feelings of lethargy, isolation and confusion, inhibiting our ability to move forward with our lives,’ says Amanda. According to Amanda, clutter is… Anything you don’t love, use or need, or wouldn’t buy again today.
• The stuff you cling on to, maybe out of guilt or fear.
• It’s also the stuff you keep because of appearance, expense and approval.
NEXT Curate your newly cleared space, even if it’s just one corner of a room. Amanda suggests we cultivate our ‘sacred space’ with things that nourish us and inspire us to switch off. ‘A drapey blanket, a scented candle, fresh blooms, art you love, a window to look out of, or books to read,’ she says. ‘Then honour this space by holding boundaries. If something isn’t aligned with self-care and repair, it doesn’t live here.’
