BEST-TASTING COMPOSTABLE POD

Kiss The Hippo Nespresso Compatible

Compostable Pods, 55p per pod (45p with a subscription); kissthehippo.com 81/100

These pods are made from compostable bioplastic, which is often made from plant material. They produced a complex coffee with notes of berries, toast and tobacco. Testers enjoyed the thick crema and bright flavour.

BEST-TASTING WIDELY RECYCLABLE POD

Co-op Irresistible Single Origin Espresso Fairtrade

Coffee Pods, 35p per pod; in-store only 85/100

If aluminium foil is accepted in your recycling collection, simply empty out the coffee grounds from the 100% aluminium pods after use and rinse. Testers found this Fairtrade coffee rich, smooth and full-bodied, with an aromatic, chocolatey taste and a frothy crema.

HOW WE TESTED Our panel of 10 testers brewed coffee using 15 different Nespresso-compatible compostable and recyclable pods, including supermarket own-brands and pods from speciality coffee roasters. We assessed each on taste and the quality of its crema.

WHY NOT TRY… REUSABLE PODS?

Evergreen Reusable Capsule for Nespresso, £25, evergreen-capsules.com, is a reusable stainless-steel capsule you fill with coffee before attaching the lid. A 250g bag should fill the pod roughly 35 times.
