BEST ROSÉ CHAMPAGNE UNDER £40
Our experts tried 11 rosé Champagnes priced at £40 or under. They were tasked with finding an aromatic, well-balanced fizz with summer fruit flavours, integrated acidity and silky smooth bubbles. Our winner was Ayala Rosé Majeur Champagne (£36.25, thewhiskyexchange.com) with a score of 86/100. Ayala is part of the Bollinger family and delivers oodles of complexity without the hefty price tag. Three years of ageing has given it a rich biscuity note, and our panel praised the tart green apple, zesty pink grapefruit and subtle peach notes. In terms of food pairing, it’s surprisingly versatile, working equally well with grilled salmon, lamb chops and fruity desserts.
