THE NEED TO BELONG
Your article on the life of Florence Olájídé . (June) is fascinating. Truly inspirational, Florence is such a strong, brave woman and we are fortunate in Britain that she returned to contribute so much to our society. How true that we all feel the need to belong. Reading it caused me to evaluate my life and appreciate all that I have. MAUREEN ELLISON
TRIP OF A LIFETIME
I read All Aboard! (June) with great interest. My husband and I went Interrailing for our 25th wedding anniversary in October 2019. We spent seven days in Switzerland, then on to Venice, Vienna and Prague. It really was a trip of a lifetime and I’d recommend it to anyone. The secret was to book seats in advance and buy new cases with swivel wheels rather than backpacks, which made it stress- and backache-free! ALISON IRVING
ZERO WASTE
I was delighted to read What Greener Living Means To You (June). It is so important to push everyone to make conscious decisions about what they do in their everyday lives. My partner and I are opening a zero-waste shop called Heart & Compass in Basingstoke. It is not only about the shop; we want to use it to educate people and meet them wherever they are on their sustainability journey. HELEN NOONAN
RETURN OF HOPE
I loved the June interview with Jo Whiley; she is so down to earth and open! Good Housekeeping has kept me sane through the past year or so. It always seemed to arrive at the right time, and in the darkness of despair and worry,
I was able to lose myself in dreams of exotic locations, dressing up and fabulous meals at restaurants. I was always left hopeful that maybe better times were around the corner! And for that, I am very grateful. RITA FORSHAW
BAKES AND MAKES
The Harissa Aubergine (June) was a big hit at a recent family BBQ. It was great to have a new vegan dish to share that was so easy, yet special. This will be added to our repertoire! MICHELLE ACKROYD
I made the Summer Fruit and White Chocolate Tart (June) for my sister as she prepared to move house; perfect for an occasion that is both happy and sad. It was a totally delicious combination of crème pâtissière, berries and buttery pastry. JACKIE WALSH
My five-year-old son Fin has just joined a Beavers group and had to bake biscuits, so we decided to make the Raspberry Lemonade Bars (June). He did all the mixing, stirring, measuring and clearing-up. The bars tasted amazing and Fin now considers himself to be the star baker in our house! MELANIE BELL
