Starting a great book makes me want to hug myself
• The last great film you saw…
Nomadland. I adore Frances Mcdormand. She gave a luminous performance – and it was so refreshing to see pictures of her getting her Oscar looking like a relatable human.
• The film you could watch over and over…
This Is Spinal Tap, one of the best comedies ever made. I watch it at least twice a year, sometimes more if I need to be cheered up or inspired.
• The performance that made you cry…
Jeanine, David’s girlfriend, in This Is Spinal Tap. She turns up and attempts to split up the band in a Yoko Ono-esque way. She makes me cry… with laughter.
• The one you’d tell everyone to see…
The Florida Project. Gritty, life-affirming and desperate all at the same time. It’s a brilliant film and the kids were just outstanding.
• The last boxset you binged on…
Schitt’s Creek. Catherine O’hara is a comedy genius.
• The album you loved…
Essa Weira’s latest album, Balance, which came out recently. Gorgeous.
• The one you want to hear…
Anything by Metro Zee. I’m obsessed; the sound is so fabulous and gleeful.
• The book that inspired you…
My Mess Is A Bit Of A Life by Georgia Pritchett. She’s one of Britain’s best comedy writers and this autobiographical book is hilarious, tender and gorgeous in equal measure.
• The best recommendation you received…
My pal, Lou, recommended American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins, which I’ve just started reading. It’s caused a bit of a kerfuffle in America. Oprah Winfrey championed it. It’s a page-turner. I love having just started a great book, it makes me want to hug myself.
• The ticket you’d love to get your hands on…
A Kraftwerk gig. I’ll travel very, very far to see them.
• All episodes of Hitmen: Reloaded will be available from September on Sky Comedy and streaming service NOW
