Good times with… Rupert Penry-jones
Actor Rupert lives in Hampshire with his wife, Dervla Kirwan, and their two children, Florence, 17, and Peter, 15.
The last great film you saw…
I had a bit of a Mads Mikkelsen fest recently and watched Another Round and Riders Of Justice, both of which were amazing. I also saw Dune, which was wonderful; I felt enveloped in a new world.
The film you could watch over and over… There are two Leonardo Dicaprio movies: The Revenant and Django Unchained.
The performance that made
you cry… In 1989, I went to see the play Shadowlands, starring Nigel Hawthorne and Jane Lapotaire, with my mum and grandmother. It was just after my grandfather died; when it finished, we couldn’t leave because we were crying so much. The one you’d tell everyone to see… I loved Ralph Fiennes in Schindler’s List, and Rolf Lassgård in A Man Called Ove. I can’t get those performances out of my head.
The podcast you loved… I listen
to Americast religiously. I also like Dear Joan And Jericha; it’s disgustingly funny. The last boxset you binged on…
Lovecraft Country, a supernatural series about racial injustice. Just when you think it can’t get any more outrageous, it does.
Top of your must-watch list…
The third series of Succession.
The album you loved… Sun Leads Me On by Half Moon Run. It’s the perfect album to listen to when I’m out riding my bike.
The one you want to hear…
An unheard album by The Beatles. The best recommendation you received… Any Human Heart by William Boyd, which is now my favourite book.
The ticket you’d love to get
your hands on… I’d love to go to a Grand Slam final; watching live tennis is one of my favourite things.
Rupert Penry-jones stars in Our House, which airs on ITV and ITV Hub in March
