Good times with… Juliet Stevenson
Juliet lives in London with her husband, Hugh Brody. They have two children, Rosalind, 28, and Gabriel, 21.
The last great film you saw…
So Long, My Son. It’s the story of a couple who lose their little boy during the one-child policy in China and it’s a masterpiece. I strongly urge everyone to see it. The film you could watch over and over… Either The Sound Of Music or Toy Story. I think all
of the Toy Story films are genius. The performance that made you cry… Madame Butterfly always makes me cry. Anything to do with mothers being separated from their children makes me weep.
The one you’d tell everyone to
see… A film called Roma. It’s set in Mexico in the 1970s and it’s about a servant who comes from an indigenous community in Mexico and works for a wealthy family. The lead, Yalitza Aparicio, had never acted before, but she’s superb.
The podcast you loved… I’m a bit of a podcast addict. My favourite is The Guilty Feminist, created and hosted by my friend Deborah Frances-white, who’s brought comedy to feminism. She tackles serious issues, but she does it with such joy and wit.
The last great show you watched… Hugh and I watched this astonishing documentary series called The Vietnam War.
I love learning about things I didn’t know enough about. Top of your TV planner this
month… There are only two things that Hugh and I regularly watch – Springwatch and University Challenge, because we’re geeks!
The album you loved… I’ve been listening to a lot of wonderful female vocalists recently – Adele, Annie Lennox, Martha Wainwright and Kate Bush.
The book that inspired you…
Beloved by Toni Morrison. I’d been meaning to read it for years. It felt like more than a book, like a significant experience that will reshape my thinking for life.
The best recommendation you received… Come From Away –a fabulous and heartwarming show. The ticket you’d love to get your hands on… Hamilton. Juliet is starring in The Doctor on tour, then at the Duke of York’s Theatre, London. For full details and tickets, see atgtickets.com
