SURFACE CLEANERS

A good quality cleaning product will make light work of household chores. Here are our top picks of the 21 tested.

BEST REFILLABLE CLEANER Neat Anti-bac Multi-surface Starter Pack

£7 for 500ml bottle and 30ml refill, Ocado

This refillable metal bottle cuts down on plastic waste and it impressed our testers with its streak-free finish.

You need to scrub to remove tougher stains, but overall, it’s effective and versatile.

BEST PASTE

The Pink Stuff Miracle Cleaning Paste

£1.50 for 850g, Wilko

With miracle in its name, we had high hopes for this paste and it certainly impressed, reliably lifting stains from our pots. It’s more of a faff to apply than a spray and is abrasive, so do a patch test first.

BEST SHOWER CLEANER Neat Daily Shower Cleaner Starter Pack

£6 for 500ml bottle and 30ml refill, Waitrose & Partners

With a gentle fig and violet scent, our panel loved this shower cleaner. The concentrate is easy to dispense and it cuts through scum, soap and hard water marks, leaving your bathroom sparkling.

BEST BUDGET Ecover Multi-surface Cleaner

£2.50 for 500ml, Sainsbury’s

This cleaner comes in a traditional spray bottle so it’s not as eco-friendly as refills, but it works well as an affordable go-to. It excelled in the bathroom, leaving our glass surfaces glistening, but in the kitchen, set-in tomato stains required some elbow grease.

✶ HOW WE TESTED Each cleaning product was tested by our experts on an assortment of relevant surfaces, assessing how well they lifted dirt, grease and stains and whether they achieved a streak-free finish. They were also sent to a panel of readers who used them on a daily basis in their own homes for up to four weeks. Results of both tests were collated to award the final scores.
