The beaming smile of the doorwoman typifies the impeccable and personable service at this luxury hotel, where guests are cocooned in care from the moment they cross the threshold. Exquisitely tasteful decor in pastel shades is the backdrop against which the hospitality professionals ply their craft. In Michelin-starred Woven, chef Adam Smith delivers plate after plate of culinary wonders (even the laden bread basket wins gasps of ecstasy), while a pianist soothes the soul over post-prandial coffee and petit-fours (he’s happy to take requests). Bedrooms offer up layer upon layer of softness – huge, comfortable beds overflowing with pillows, and cosy nooks to lounge in overlooking the stunning grounds (including a bountiful kitchen garden, lake, stables and two professional polo fields). More nurturing is on offer in the spa, a short walk from the main hotel and half-submerged into the ground with a living roof. There’s a 25m pool and high-tech fitness suite plus oodles of places for lounging, and the treatment menu is extensive. Nail services are delivered in a crisp white, clinically clean room, while face and massage treatments take place in softly lit suites. Can’t choose between a facial or massage? The Germaine de Capuccini SRNS Face and Body Ritual means you can enjoy both, and involves more than an hour of top-to-toe relaxation, inviting comments of ‘where have you been – you look amazing’ for days afterwards. This luxurious experience comes with a price tag to match, but just one night feels like an entire week’s holiday.

GOOD TO KNOW Polo lessons are available between April and September and there are regular fixtures for hotel guests to watch.
