taylor’s ‘magical romance’ is over

-

Just two months ago she described their relationship as ‘magical’, but last week sources close to Taylor Swift confirmed that her romance with Calvin Harris had come to an abrupt end.

According to one insider, ‘It was Calvin who instigated the split, and Taylor is heartbroken that things didn’t work out. It all happened so quickly, even though they’d had problems, nobody anticipated that things would end so suddenly. No third parties were involved.’

Apparently, Taylor had been disappointed that Calvin had been absent from a number of key events in recent months, including the BMI (Broadcast Music Inc) Awards, Grammys and Met Ball. However, the pair enjoyed a romantic Caribbean break last month, and when he was involved in a car crash soon after, she rushed to be by his side.

‘There were a few times when Taylor 

wanted Calvin’s support and he bailed, but she would dismiss her doubts and tell herself it was because he is always so career-focused. Then, after his crash, she dropped everything to be with him and was ready to prove her commitment. Sadly, the closer she tried to get to Calvin, the more she felt he pushed her away. Despite having been together for 15 months, they’ve both been crazily busy during that time and had spent long periods apart. Once it was just them together without any distractions, the cracks showed, and Calvin told friends he felt suffocated in their relationship. At first it seemed that his accident would bring them closer, but it ended up tearing them apart.’

Before news of the split broke, Taylor was lying low in Nashville with her mum Andrea. ‘She’s putting a brave face on, but it’s always difficult when a relationship ends,’ added the source. ‘She’d told friends that Calvin was different to her previous relationships and hoped that this could be something big.’

Meanwhile, according to a source in Calvin’s camp, he struggled with the fanfare that accompanies dating one of the world’s biggest stars. ‘Taylor is an empire in her own right and, as such, her life is very controlled. At the end of the day, Calvin is still a smalltown boy from Dumfries and I think he struggled with living in such regimented conditions, where his every move was speculated upon.’

Prior to their relationship, Taylor had discussed the pitfalls of dating as a megastar. Five months before being introduced to Calvin by mutual friend Ellie Goulding, she admitted that she hadn’t dated for two years, saying, ‘I don’t like how these factors build the pressure so high in a new relationship that it gets snuffed out before it even has a chance to start.’ In August she alluded to her decision to end this self-imposed man ban, explaining that she had, ‘Not [been] looking for anything, but only being open to the idea that, if I found someone who would never try to change me, that would be the only person I could fall in love with.’

Since the break-up, Taylor is said to have been relying on the support of her squad, who have been ‘inundating’ her with calls and messages. Meanwhile, Calvin commented on Twitter that ‘what remains is love and respect’.

The first source added, ‘It’s very sad for both of them, but things ended as amicably as was possible, and they’ve both promised not to trash-talk the other. Sometimes it’s just not meant to be.’

Now just two important questions remain… How long do we have to wait for Taylor’s inevitably amazing break-up album, and who gets custody of the inflatable swan?
